Jas is a typically Provencal term for a sheepfold, a gîte, a shelter built away from the hamlets. The Alpes de Haute Provence has many more jas to discover on your walks.

The Jas was intended to protect shepherds and their flocks from predators, but also from adverse weather conditions. Most of the time, the jas was built using materials found on site, often dry stones removed directly from the ground by farmers when preparing land for cultivation.

At Moulin de Bicaïl, a nearby river was used to build the Jas from pebbles.

Built with traditional materials, the Jas will welcome you in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
